This course is a practical introduction to work place health and safety committees, health and safety representatives, and policy health and safety committees in Canadian federally-regulated work places. Learn how to fulfill your duties as a committee member or representative, as specified in the Canada Labour Code, Part II. Health and safety legislation in Canada, including the Code, is based on the principle of internal responsibility. This system recognizes that the employer and employees have a shared responsibility for work place health and safety.

  • Describe incident reporting, investigations, and recommendations related to committee members and representatives
  • Understand the complaint resolution and work refusal processes and recommend resolutions to employee health and safety concerns

Prerequisite

This course focuses on the knowledge required by paragraph 125.(1)(z.01) of the Canada Labour Code, Part II. Learners should have a strong foundational knowledge of the Code prior to taking this course. CCOHS’ course, Canada Labour Code, Part II: An Overview, introduces the requirements of the Code and how it is applied, as required by paragraph 19.6(1)(a) of the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

Certificate of Completion

Upon completion of the course and passing a final, multiple-choice exam, learners will be able to print a certificate of completion.
