Description

There is an opioid crisis in Canada, and this crisis can have an impact on individuals and their families. It may also impact the workplace, and everyone’s right to work in a safe and healthy environment. Learn about employer and supervisor duties, the importance of addressing substance use through a policy, and the steps you should take when possible impairment is observed including supports that can be encouraged.

Response to observed behaviour
Being supportive
First aid responses
Recovery and accommodations

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

Recognize the importance of addressing impairment or possible substance use
Understand the elements of a policy to address impairment in the workplace, and the roles of each party
Assess and respond to concerns without judgment, stigmatizing language, or behaviours
Describe how naloxone is used in the event of an opioid poisoning

Average time to complete this course is approximately 45 minutes.

Target Audience

This course introduces employers to the impacts of opioid use in the workplace and employer and supervisor duties. A corresponding course for workers is also available.

Upon completion of the course and passing a final, multiple-choice exam, learners will be able to print a certificate of completion.
